How the map works

Shine’s map is a real world map. Profiles appear on it grouped by area, with their photo. You can browse the city you are in, or anywhere else: before a trip, you already see who lives there. From the map you open a full profile, like, pass, send a Spark, like anywhere else in the app.

What others see of you

Your position is rounded before it leaves your phone. Others see an area, never a point, never a distance in meters. You can appear on or disappear from the map at any time in Settings. Shine shows no distance anywhere, on purpose: the map is there to know who is around, not to track you.

The galaxy: a map of what matters

On the map, sorting is geographic. In the galaxy, it is human. Your flame is at the center, other profiles are stars around you, on several layers of depth. The closer a star, the higher your Soul Match. Direction means nothing, and distance on screen is not a real distance. It is a search in depth, not in kilometers.

Why a map rather than a stack of cards

A stack of profiles to swipe through does not tell you where people are. A map does. It answers the real question when you arrive in a city, when you travel, when you want to know whether your neighborhood is alive. Shine keeps the familiar gesture, like or pass, and puts the map next to it, as a feature, not a constraint.
